Cruise with us!
a ? graphicWhat exactly is a street rod?

letter A graphicA street rod is the best of two worlds ... a pre -1949 style car with modern conveniences and cutting edge equipment, making it as safe to drive as today's road vehicles.  Basically, a street rod is any pre-1949 vehicle that has been upgraded in some way.  The key word is "upgraded", meaning something about the vehicle has been modernized.  There's room for a lot of variation here.  Some street rods may look like an original car from the outside but chances are one or more working parts (the engine, transmission, brakes, steering system, front and rear drive trains, tires) have been changed to more modern and up to date.  Some people may call this type a "resto-rod".  The hallmark, though, of most street rods is the bright, colorful, sometimes wild exteriors and interiors.  The only limiting factors here are one's imagination, one's time, and the depth of one's pockets!

Some our street rods can be seen from the Club Rods photos section or at the area's many Cruisin' Nights, or just out and about.

This web site is about our street rods and this club.  We hope to turn a spark of interest into flames of love for street rodding.

Next Club Meeting
Our next Membership Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st at the North Syracuse Community Center, 700 South Bay Road, beginning at 7:00pm. The meeting will begin with a dessert to pass, so if you can, surprise us with one of your favorite desserts. Monthly Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 4th at Don Barker's house beginning at 07:00pm.

Valentines Party
This year's Valentines Party was held on the 16th of February at Twin Trees Restaurant on Milton Ave in Solvay. This was the first Valentines party we've had in a long time and it proved to be quite successful even though our service was unexpectedly slow. Roughly 40 members and guests attended the party. Our reservations were for 6:30pm, but due to a previous group leaving late we weren't immediately seated. Once we were, we found that we had but one waitress, so the service proved to be a bit slow. The nice thing about it, it offered us more time to talk with people we hadn't seen for a while, talk over old times and get caught up on some of the more recent events. Before we ate, Janet Warner passed out little bags of candy that she had put together as a Valentine treat. It seemed most everyone, if not everyone, enjoyed their meal and the evening's festivities in general. We want to give special thanks to Janet Warner for all the hard work she put into making this party a success.

White Elephant Sale
As we predicted in last month's newsletter our annual White Elephant Sale was a resounding success. We took in $150.00 auctioning off the many items that were donated by our members for this annual event. If you have never attended one of these sales, members will bring in all sorts of items that are auctioned off individually or as a package. The good thing is that no item is returned to the original owner. Everything is auctioned off and taken home by the lucky winners. What really makes this a fun night is the enjoyable laughter that is created by the many comments and outbursts of those in the crowd and by our auctioneers.
Jon Burdick and Janet Warner did a great job auctioning off everything and keeping everyone in stitches. Our many thanks to those that donated the items that were auctioned, and a special thanks to Jon and Janet for making the evening such a fun filled success. At our last Board of Director's meeting it was decided that the $150.00 would be donated to "Francis House" for the outstanding work they do for the terminally ill.

IASC Car Show
As in the past, we will be having a group display of our club cars at the spring car show in April. If you have entered your car and would like to join our group, give Dick Lynch a call at 463-6389 as soon as possible so he can make arrangements to have enough space for all of our cars.

CNYCar Club News Items (cnycca.org)
Jeff Debner of Quaker Steak & Lube Restaurant briefed club members at the February meeting on what he hopes will become one of the region's favorite spot for car enthusiasts. The restaurant is located on Walters Road in Lakeside. Once completed, it will be the only motorsport themed restaurant in Central New York. Jeff's plans call for cruises on both Thursday and Saturday night and a bike night sometime during the week. He plans to have the restaurant open by April 9th. If you want to reach Jeff with some questions, his e-mail is: jeff@syracuselube.com.
There is an un-confirmed rumor that the Regional Market Cruise night might be moved to Tuesday this summer.
The County has indicated that there will not be a cruise on Onondaga Lake Parkway as there was last year during the Syracuse Nationals.
Right Coast has announced that there will be a Charity Cruise on the fair grounds both Friday and Saturday night. Laps will be counted and the winners will have money awarded to a charity of their choice. Prizes given away each evening are: $1,000, $500 and $250.
In the January issue of Street Rodder Magazine, the member clubs of CNY Car Club were given special credit for their outstanding cooperation during last year's Syracuse Nationals Car Show.
It looks like CNYCC members will once again be allowed to have their post cutoff vehicles (newer than 1980) in the Cargill Building again this year. They intend to tighten up the rules so that these cars remain in the building and not mix with the other cars.
Watkins Glenn has renewed its Lap & Lunch program with 4 laps on the track and a meal at their restaurant. Cost is $16.00 per person with a minimum of 40 persons.

Misc. Use Full Info
An independent committee, that is being chaired by Mike Alexander, has been formed to assist Right Coast in obtaining the volunteers that will be needed to support this year's Syracuse Nationals Car Show. In the past this function was handled by CNY Car Club's President, Dennis Connor. Last November, CNYCC decided that they would no longer be involved in soliciting help for the show. This did not mean that they would no longer offer their help at future shows it just means they will not be the organizer of the volunteer help. This change, will have little or no affect on the volunteers and the benefits they derive from participating. The one major change will be the selection of charities that will receive a contribution from Right Coast.
This year's "Father's Day Car Show" will be held in Auburn on the 15th of June. The one major change to the show is the way they will be judging cars. Instead of the traditional way, they will have a committee decide which 50 vehicles most notably represent the hobby. The top 50 will be known as the "Favorite Fifty." Special Awards will continue to be determined by a judging committee using the traditional judging format.
It sounds like they are still looking for people to judge cars at the IASC Car Show in April at the Fairgrounds. If interested give Dennis Connor a call at 469-0913, or give Jim Monroe a call and he will see about having your name added to the list. Volunteers will have to report no later then 07:00am on Saturday the 5th of April for the judging. If you become a judge, you will get a weekend pass or a refund on your registration fee if you have a car in the show.
The group that was successful in promoting last year's "Onondaga Lake Parkway Cruise", during the Syracuse Nationals, is once again working with the County to organize another cruise. They hope to have the cruise on Saturday night instead of Thursday as they did last year.
